U.S. Postal Brass and Iron Eagle Letter Box
USA, circa 1930s
Inspired by the designs of Cutler Architects, the first patent holder of mailbox chutes. Used in the lobbies of grand buildings.
Art Deco - The rectangular form with brass borders, green and red enamel “letter slot” over a locking rectangular cabinet front and art deco styled American eagle over an area for postage image and at the base marked U.S. Letter Box, the cabinet on large hinges.
Mounted on wall with oak panel (possibly from Ohio
State Capital Building). A mail chute was originally part of the design.
39" high x 19 1⁄2: wide x 5" deep
Condition: Good; unknown if original colors as most were all gold.
